SHC's Homework Helpers provide one-on-one assistance to children in Elementary School.
Tutoring may cover basic study skills (how to organize papers or how to search for information on the Internet); help with assignments (worksheets and science projects); math drills; spelling; and reading skills. Most children who get tutored through Homework Helpers are English language learners and benefit from one-on-one support and practice.
Tutoring is provided by High School or College student volunteers.
This is a fun and rewarding opportunity for High School or College students who are interested in meaningful cross-cultural engagement. Volunteers don't need prior experience. Onsite SHC staff members are available to provide support and tutoring tools. Volunteers can receive Student Service Learning Hours (SSL).
Do you want to volunteer?
Currently Homework Helpers tutoring is conducted online. Click here to learn about becoming a homework helper.
Volunteers should be willing to tutor once a month. All volunteers will receive a mandatory orientation before starting. If you are under the age of 18, your parents will need to review and sign SHC policies and a waiver before you can volunteer.
