All the Ways You Can Help
Most volunteer opportunities at SHC do not require special skills. However volunteering at SHC can make a world of difference to a newcomer in our community. As a volunteer you may gain an insight into a new culture and make a new friend. Volunteers often point out that their SHC experience is transformative.
SHC is committed to providing volunteers with support, training, as well as opportunities to share experiences with other volunteers. When you submit your volunteer application, you will be invited to an orientation and information session to gain a better understanding of our organization, of the families we work with, and of your volunteer role. If you agree to volunteer, you will need to do a background check. Prior to getting started, you will have the opportunity to shadow an experienced volunteer.
COVID-19 Update: We are currently working with volunteers and newcomer families to provide remote assistance through online tutoring. Our greatest need is for adult English tutors. Please check our school supply drive to help newcomer students who cannot access classroom materials during the pandemic.
