• The Maryland Office for Refugees and Asylees provides the following federal health programs to eligible Maryland clients:

  • The RHA (also known as the Domestic Medical Exam or Refugee Medical Screening) is an important and first step for newcomers getting connected to health care in Maryland.

    It is an extended medical appointment that takes place with specially trained health care providers. The RHA is a two-visit process, during which newcomers will receive a specific health evaluation, receive refills for medications, if needed, and get connected to primary care and specialist doctors. Newcomers will also be connected to language-specific health education sessions.

    PLEASE NOTE: The RHA is coordinated with two specific Federally Qualified Health Centers: Baltimore Medical System and CCI Health Services.

  • The Maryland Assembly on School Based Health Care (MASBHC) is a nonprofit organization that promotes school-based health care as a means to advance the belief that all Maryland children and youth have a basic fundamental right to access and receive comprehensive, quality health care.

    School-based health care represents an essential strategy toward improving the lives of Maryland’s children and their families. School-based health care addresses the unique needs of children and youth and increases access to medical, mental, dental and/or other health related services.

MEDICAL SERVICES

  • Coaching Salud Holistica's program helps newcomers to Maryland learn how to navigate the healthcare system, understand their health insurance options, and access essential health services. Their bilingual community health workers provide personalized guidance and support, ensuring that newcomers can find and utilize the healthcare resources they need.

  • Coaching Salud Holistica's doula program offers comprehensive support to expectant mothers throughout their pregnancy, childbirth, and postpartum period. Their trained doulas provide emotional, physical, and informational support, empowering mothers to have a positive birthing experience. Services include prenatal visits, labor and delivery support, and postpartum care, tailored to meet the cultural and linguistic needs of their clients.

    Eligibility:
    For the doula program, they have a sliding scale, some free service vouchers, and must live in Montgomery or Prince George's County.

  • The MKHC was founded to increase access to primary healthcare services for the uninsured and underinsured adults of Montgomery County (MC). The provide healthcare and health education for underserved MC adult residents. Services include primary health care, specialty health services, pharmacy and lab tests.

  • ICM Cares Clinic brings affordable/free healthcare to the marginalized and uninsured of Montgomery County. Services offered include: new patient visits, wellness checkups, medical consultations, lab testing, and more. Most days, they have Urdu translation available. On Saturdays, they have Spanish and French speaking physicians. French speaking physicians are also on-site on Tuesdays.

    All patients must complete a patient information form prior to their appointment and to receive medical service. You may download the form, fill it out, and present it during your appointment or you can complete the form online and submit it before your appointment. The form can be found HERE.

    Please note, they serve patients aged 18+ years with and without medical insurance, and their visit copay is $30.

  • The Maryland Vaccine Program​ is a state-funded vaccine program designed to expand access to critical immunizations for all eligible Maryland residents. This program will provide recommended vaccines free of charge to Maryland adults who do not have health insurance (uninsured) or whose insurance doesn't fully cover the cost of service (underinsured), minimizing out-of-pocket costs as a barrier to vaccine access. Marylanders should contact their local health department for more information on which vaccines will be available and when they will be in supply!

  • The Maryland Vaccines for Children (VFC) Program has been in operation since October 1994. To date, they have almost 700 providers enrolled who practice at 1,000 public and private practice vaccine delivery sites throughout Maryland. Designed to remove cost as a barrier to vaccination, this program allows enrolled physicians to provide all routinely recommended vaccines, free of cost, to children 18 years old and younger who:

    • are Maryland Medicaid eligible;

    • are uninsured; or

    • are Native American or Alaskan Native; or

    • are underinsured (children who have health insurance that does not cover immunization).
