Early Childhood Education

Our Early Childhood Education initiative is purpose-built to enrich the learning journey of young children aged 2-5, hailing from households where English is not the primary language. With classes conducted both in-person and online, we create a nurturing space where children learn and grow alongside their mothers, fostering a supportive environment for educational exploration.

What We Offer

  • Since 2018 SHC has provided school uniforms and school supplies to local students returning to school. SHC hosts a Back to School celebration in partnership with local schools, property management and other organizations where teachers, families and volunteers celebrate before the first day of school at local apartment complexes and distribute uniform items and back to school supplies. Each annual event typically assists over 300 families with needed Back to School items.

  • An online interactive preschool group for children from households where English is not spoken at home. Preschool is taught by a former Head Start teacher who collaborates with one of the SHC Adult ELL teachers. PreSHCool students are also given a developmental assessment. (10-15 students attend each PreSHCool class meeting)
